AD - Technical Analysis 1
I analysed the music video Only by Nine Inch Nails. I found that many of the shots used were close ups and mid shots. The majority of close ups were used when showing the lead singer singing even if it was in the form of a pin toy thing. This is probably used to show a concept and artistic form in their video. There were plenty of close ups, this is probably because of the small items and so that they could show detail that was needed in the video.
They seemed to have used plenty of steady cam or mounted shots but these shots seemed to move continually. They were slightly shaky but this was not very noticeable. A lot of the shots seemed to be from worm eye angles. This was so that the small objects in the shot appeared larger and more imposing than they would normally, but also the high angle shots show that the it is still in fact someone’s laptop and speakers. A lot of tracking shots were used following in the video. This keeps the camera moving and keeps the audience interested as the video is of one thing for four and half minutes.
